Our milking animals are housed in a freestall facility, milked in a herringbone style parlor and fed a group TMR. Calves are fed a concentrated formula three times each day to maximize growth and yearlings are pasteured and supplemented with an age appropriate TMR.
At Palmyra, we practice many conservation programs to maximize efficiencies and support good environmental practices and have been recognized by state and local conservation agencies for their efforts. We are also very active in community, industry and breed organizations and have strongly supported agriculture youth programs for generations.
Palmyra Farm has had 158 All-American Ayrshire Nominations and 51 All-American Ayrshires. In 1979 Palmyra had their first Grand Champion at World Dairy Expo and in 2017 we finally repeated this honor with Palmyra Berkely P Ruth-ET, who claims 9 of her closest 14 ancestors to be bred by Palmyra. In 2018, Ruth repeated as Grand Champion and contributed to Palmyra being named Premiere Breeder and Exhibitor of the show. Palmyra has now accumulated 9 Premier Exhibitor honors and 12 times Premier Breeder.
Palmyra has sent 81 Ayrshire bulls to AI testing and 16 Holstein bulls. Palmyra Tristar Burdette-ET has been recognized for six consecutive years as the Premiere Ayrshire Sire at World Dairy Expo. In 2021, Palmyra Berkely Reagan-ET replaced Burdette as Premier Sire of the Heifer Show and total show. He repeated this honor in 2022. We have bred 10 #1 Elite Genetics cows and are proud that Ruth is the most recent one. We have also exported embryos to ten countries.
Palmyra has won 11 Ayrshire French Production Trophies, 10 Ayrshire Constructive Breeder Awards and were recognized in 2011 as the Ayrshire Master Breeder as well as earning then Maryland Progressive Holstein Breeder and Genetics Awards. In 2009, we were recognized as the Outstanding Small Business in Washington County. 2014 saw recognitions as Maryland Outstanding Holstein Dairyman and induction into the Maryland Dairy Shrine. In 2022, Palmyra was recognized as the Robert “Whitey” McKown Master breeder.
In 2019 we were very honored to be recognized by Washington County Maryland as their Farm of the Year. And, even more humbled to be recognized by National Dairy Shrine as the 2019 Outstanding Breeder. It was an outstanding moment that will be treasured for ever. Read the full story HERE!
